Five people were injured Monday night after a multi-vehicle collision on Interstate 95 in Martin County that sparked a vehicle fire and shut down all northbound lanes for hours. The crash occurred just before 10 p.m. on northbound I-95 near Exit 101 and Halpatiokee Regional Park, prompting a major emergency response.
Martin County Fire Rescue crews arrived to find one of the vehicles engulfed in flames and quickly extinguished the fire. Two people suffered traumatic injuries and were transported to area hospitals, while three others sustained minor injuries and were also taken for medical treatment. The extent of their current conditions has not been disclosed.
All northbound lanes of I-95 were closed while law enforcement investigated the circumstances of the crash. The closure caused significant traffic delays for drivers traveling through Stuart during the late evening hours. By Tuesday morning, all lanes had reopened to traffic.
The Florida Highway Patrol is handling the investigation into what caused the multi-vehicle collision. The crash is one of several serious incidents on Interstate 95 in Martin County in recent months, highlighting ongoing safety concerns on the heavily traveled corridor that connects communities throughout the Treasure Coast.
