Treasure Coast Square Mall has been a community landmark for many years, and discussions about its future have recently gained attention. In 2023, Martin County commissioned a study to explore potential redevelopment options for the property. The study examined possibilities including residential apartments, an amphitheater, and green space designed in an outdoor format. County officials have characterized the effort as a planning exercise rather than a commitment to change.

Shoppers express a range of opinions about the mall's current state and potential improvements. Liz Permar said "It's always been a fun place to go to" and believes a facelift would be beneficial. Kimberly Grucza appreciates the concept of an update but has reservations about one specific aspect of the proposal. She stated "I like the idea of an update," but expressed concern about the apartment component, noting that "we already have so many" residential options in the area. While shoppers generally welcome improvements, not everyone supports every element of the proposed redevelopment.

Business owners operating inside the mall are closely monitoring the redevelopment discussion because any changes could directly affect their operations. Jessica Henry, who owns Plantitude and Flame, emphasized her hope that "if it goes through, you know they do more open concept stores where we're still able to have our business." Ron Gustafson, owner of MVP Sport Cards, reports that his store has thrived at its current location. He stated "The model of the mall store has worked for us. The store has been tremendously successful." However, Gustafson also identified maintenance issues that concern him. He noted experiencing water leaks in his store and believes the facility requires attention. According to Gustafson, "I think it's in neglect. I think with some effort and the right management this could turn around."

The status of the redevelopment proposal remains uncertain. Martin County Administrator Don Donaldson confirmed that what began as a planning study continues to be exactly that, with no firm decisions made about moving forward. Both the mall management and county officials have characterized the study as exploratory in nature, leaving the future direction of Treasure Coast Square Mall open to question. Whether the property will undergo significant changes or remain largely as it is will depend on decisions yet to be made by county leadership and other stakeholders.
