A law enforcement crackdown called Operation Summer Heat has led to 24 arrests and the seizure of 7 firearms across St. Lucie County. The initiative is part of ongoing efforts by police to address criminal activity in the region during the summer months. One recent case illustrates the types of incidents the operation targets.

A Port St. Lucie man was arrested following a road rage incident involving a pregnant driver. Robert Kniceley, 78, was driving a yellow Chevrolet pickup truck east on St. Lucie West Boulevard on a Tuesday afternoon when he began honking and driving aggressively. At the intersection of SW Peacock Boulevard and SW St. Lucie West Boulevard, he pulled alongside the victim's vehicle. When she rolled down her window, he allegedly pointed a handgun at her. The woman, who is in late pregnancy, became frightened for her safety and called 911.

Police responded and obtained video evidence the victim recorded of Kniceley leaving the area. Officers traced his license plate to his residence, where they recovered a loaded Smith Wesson .22 caliber handgun with a round in the chamber. During the investigation, Kniceley told authorities that the victim had cut him off on the roadway, causing him to become angry. He was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and transported to St. Lucie County Jail. A risk protection order seizure process was also initiated as part of the investigation.

Officer Brittany Holly with the Port St. Lucie Police Department emphasized the importance of avoiding escalation during traffic conflicts. "It's not worth the argument, it's not worth the fight," Holly said. "Disengage from that, allow room for that individual who clearly is upset or angry at whatever reason to get away, and you can safely get to a police station, a fire station." The message reflects law enforcement's broader approach to reducing violence during summer months when communities see increases in activity and tensions on roadways.
