Enrique Rosario Liz, valedictorian of St. Lucie High School, has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first member of Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Lucie County to earn the Southeast Region Youth of the Year award. He will now travel to New York City on October 1 to compete for the national title in the Boys & Girls Clubs of America's top youth recognition program. The award honors outstanding teenagers across the Boys & Girls Clubs community who demonstrate academic excellence, strong values, and leadership through service.

Enrique's path to this achievement reflects remarkable personal growth and determination. He arrived in Port St. Lucie from the Dominican Republic eight years ago without speaking English. With support from his school and the local Boys & Girls Club, he transformed his circumstances into opportunities for growth. "I could never have imagined this moment when I was 8 years old," Enrique said after receiving the award. "It's a privilege to share my journey, and I hope it inspires belief in every young person who needs a helping hand and an opportunity." His dedication throughout high school culminated in earning the valedictorian position. This fall, he will attend the University of Florida, though he will first represent the Southeast Region at the national competition.

Will Armstead, CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Lucie County, praised Enrique's character and impact. "Enrique's achievement is historic, but his character impresses me most. He's turned challenges into opportunities and advocated for others—all with humility and determination." Travis Leonard, owner of A&G Concrete Pools and a longtime Youth of the Year judge, also recognized Enrique's exceptional qualities. "From the start, Enrique stood out. Thanks to his hard work—and all those who support him—we finally have a Southeast Region Youth of the Year. I believe he's ready for the national competition, and I'm proud of him and our whole community."

Enrique's accomplishments have brought pride to his family and community. His parents expressed their gratitude for the opportunities that shaped their son's development. "We're grateful to God for every opportunity and to Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Lucie County for helping Enrique grow as a leader and a person," they said. The Youth of the Year program celebrates teenagers who demonstrate leadership and positive impact in their communities, making Enrique's selection recognition of both his individual achievements and his contributions to those around him.
