South Fork High School's football team is preparing for the upcoming fall season under the direction of new head coach Eric Kresser. The Bulldogs are currently engaged in summer workouts in Stuart as they look to build momentum heading into August when their season begins. Kresser, who previously served as head coach at The Benjamin School, has taken the helm of a program that has not recorded a winning season since 2015.
During the summer preparation period, Kresser has focused the team's efforts on conditioning and competitive team drills. "We're fully into summer conditioning doing 7 on 7 tournaments, those kinds of things," Kresser said. "I'm really excited about what I'm seeing." Beyond the physical aspects of training, Kresser has emphasized the importance of football fundamentals and team education. "Put in a lot of meeting time. Learning football and you know, where there's a will, there's a way, as they say, and there's a lot of will here," Kresser explained. His approach combines intensive conditioning with classroom instruction designed to improve the team's overall understanding of the game.
Senior player Jaahad Henry expressed optimism about the team's direction this season, noting that the atmosphere in the program has shifted positively. "Not just get through this, but let's get through it and play some football, man. I'm excited to play football," Henry said. The senior believes the new coaching staff represents a turning point for South Fork football. He pointed to the quality of both the players and coaches on the roster as reasons for his confidence. "We have a lot of great guys out here. We have some great coaches, a lot of great coaches and we're going to have a great season this year," Henry said.
The energy surrounding the program reflects a collective determination to reverse years of struggled seasons. Rather than simply enduring summer workouts, players are approaching the training period as a necessary step toward a competitive fall. With Kresser's arrival from The Benjamin School and a roster that includes talented players and an expanded coaching staff, South Fork appears positioned to make meaningful progress when the season kicks off in August.
