The St. Lucie Mets ended their nine-game losing streak Sunday afternoon with a late offensive surge, rallying past the Tampa Tarpons for a 10-5 win at Clover Park.

St. Lucie trailed 5-1 after six innings before scoring two runs in the seventh and seven more in the eighth to avoid a six-game sweep. Tampa had been trying to become the first team to sweep a six-game series against the Mets at Clover Park since Minor League Baseball adopted the format in 2021.

The decisive rally came in the eighth inning, when the Mets sent 13 batters to the plate and scored seven runs on four hits, three walks and two hit batters.

Catcher Francisco Toledo delivered the go-ahead hit with one out, ripping a two-run ground-rule double off Jordalin Mendoza to give St. Lucie a 6-5 lead. Taylor Darden followed with a two-run single against Parker Seay to extend the advantage to 8-5. Antonio Jimenez added an RBI infield single, and AJ Salgado drew a bases-loaded walk to cap the inning.

Tampa appeared in control earlier in the game. Engelth Urena homered in the fifth inning to stretch the Tarpons' lead to 5-1.

The Mets' first two runs came on solo home runs. Jimenez tied the game 1-1 in the first inning with his third homer of the season. Branny De Oleo added his sixth home run of the year in the seventh, cutting the deficit to 5-2.

St. Lucie kept the seventh-inning push going when Jeremy Rodriguez doubled and Jack Scanlon followed with an RBI double off Mendoza, bringing the Mets within 5-3.

Mets starter Emilio Obispo made his second appearance of the series and allowed one unearned run over three innings.

The bullpen kept St. Lucie within range after Calvin Ziegler allowed three runs in one-third of an inning during a MiLB rehab appearance. Justin Scarborough allowed only Urena's solo homer over 1.1 innings. Caden Wooster followed with 2.1 scoreless innings, and Ernesto Mercedes worked the final 1.2 innings without allowing a run to earn the win.

Jimenez led the Mets offensively, going 3-for-4 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored. Rodriguez went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs, while Trey Snyder finished 2-for-4.

The Mets improved to 3-10 in the second half and 36-43 overall. They are off Monday before opening a six-game commuter series Tuesday against the Jupiter Hammerheads at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
