Before the Marlins and Guardians faced off Sunday, the Marlins and Chewy gave Jonah a special pregame experience that included a ceremonial first pitch. Peter Silveira threw the pitch with his dog Jonah, executing what he called a perfect throw over the plate. The moment happened because of a video from Bark in the Park last month that went viral, showing Jonah staring at another dog eating a hot dog. Silveira said he couldn't stop laughing at the video and that all the attention Jonah received is well deserved because he's such a good boy.
Jonah was found in a box at the kill cage in Aruba with his three brothers and was rescued by the organization New Life for Paws. Silveira adopted Jonah a few months ago, giving the dog his forever home with the Silveira family in Miami. At the stadium Sunday, Jonah received toys and love from his Marlins family. Silveira said everyone who commented on the viral video told him their dog would have gone nuts and tried to jump over that seat and eat that hot dog, but Jonah went famous for being a good dog. From being abandoned in Aruba to living in Miami, Jonah now gets hugs, rubs, and love from his new family.
