The Florida Department of Transportation will hold two public workshops to discuss proposed improvements along Willoughby Boulevard between Monterey Road and U.S. 1 in Martin County.

The meetings are part of a Project Development and Environment, or PD&E, study examining potential alternatives for the corridor. FDOT will offer the workshop in virtual and in-person formats, and each meeting will include a presentation followed by an opportunity for residents to ask questions and provide feedback.

Virtual workshop scheduled for July 28

The virtual workshop will begin at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 28. Participants must register in advance at https://tinyurl.com/Willoughby-APW.

People who prefer to join by phone can call 1-469-423-0557 and enter access code 35124623#.

Registered participants will receive an email containing a link to join the meeting. Those attending from a mobile device will need the free Microsoft Teams application. FDOT recommends allowing enough time to log in before the presentation begins.

In-person workshop scheduled for July 29

The in-person workshop will begin at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 29, at the 10th Street Community Center, 724 SE 10th Street, Stuart, FL 34994.

The meeting will use an open-house format. FDOT staff will be available to explain the proposed alternatives, answer questions and assist attendees.

Questions and comments will be addressed in the order they are received. If a question cannot be answered during the event, FDOT will provide a written response after the meeting. Residents may also submit questions or comments before the workshop by contacting the project manager.

What the study will evaluate

A PD&E study is an early phase of the transportation planning process used to evaluate possible improvements and determine how a project could move forward.

The process typically considers traffic operations, roadway safety, environmental effects, community impacts, engineering needs and estimated costs. Feedback gathered during the workshops will help FDOT evaluate the proposed alternatives for Willoughby Boulevard.
