A 2-year-old child drowned in Fort Pierce over the weekend after being discovered unresponsive in a swimming pool. The incident took place at a residence in the 2600 block of Citrus Avenue on Saturday. According to police, the child managed to unlock a door and exit the home while family members were inside, going unnoticed during this time.

When family members realized the child was missing, they searched the property and found the child already in the swimming pool and unresponsive. They immediately began providing first aid to the child before Fort Pierce police officers arrived at the scene. Officers continued life-saving efforts, and the child was transported to a local hospital for emergency treatment.

Despite receiving medical care, the child's condition was critical, and police said the child ultimately died from the injuries sustained. The investigation into the drowning remains ongoing as authorities work to document the circumstances surrounding this tragedy.

This incident represents another young child's death by drowning in the area. A 2-year-old drowned in a Greenacres canal in March, and another 2-year-old drowned in Palm Beach Gardens in May, highlighting a concerning pattern of drowning deaths among young children in the region.
