FloridaCommerce announced another round of financial awards through the Hurricane Ian Hazard Mitigation Grant Match Program. The state is distributing $7.2 million in FEMA grants to four municipalities impacted by the Category 4 storm that hit Florida in September 2022. The funds are designed to provide infrastructure recovery while improving emergency preparedness and reducing the impact of future storms.
Charlotte County will receive $5.83 million for a public works hurricane-safe room generator and $93,392 for a leachate waste plant generator project. Port of the Islands Community Improvement District has $750,840 for a Union Road water storage and infrastructure retrofit project. Seminole County received $319,437 for a mitigation reconstruction project on Shad Lane, and the city of Palatka has $283,996 for a lift station generator. The Ian Hazard Mitigation Grant Match Program has already distributed more than $12 million in grants to municipalities. The FEMA funding requires local governments to match the same amount of local money to complete the projects.
