Three young gymnasts from Flip City Gym and Cheer secured a top 15 finish at AAU Nationals in Knoxville, Tennessee last month and qualified for the Junior Olympics in Iowa next month. Skylar Rose-Daris, Victoria Supan, and Charli Rine competed as a unit on the national stage after finding their way to gymnastics through different paths.
Head Coach Candice Lazuka described the season as strong, with the team competing locally and traveling before advancing to states and regionals. At AAU Nationals in Knoxville, the gymnasts came close to a perfect score. Lazuka said the team scored a 9.9, noting that a perfect 10 is hard to achieve.
The top 15 finish qualified the team for the Junior Olympics in Iowa next month. Rose-Daris said it will be really fun to go to an entire different part of the world. Supan described the feeling as happy and exciting at the same time.
Rine said she is focused on getting first place on floors heading into the Junior Olympics. The gymnasts each came to the sport for different reasons, with Rose-Daris citing her ability to do a cartwheel, Supan inspired by gymnasts she saw on YouTube, and Rine loving to learn new things.
