Editorial Standards
How we report, source and publish the news.
Treasure Coast Today is an independent local news outlet serving Martin, St. Lucie and Indian River counties. Our goal is to give residents accurate, timely and useful coverage of the issues that affect their communities, without sensationalism or clutter.
Our mission
We cover local government, public safety, development, schools, sports, community events and breaking news across the Treasure Coast. We prioritize stories that have a direct impact on the people who live and work here, and we aim to present them clearly and fairly.
Sourcing
Our reporting draws on public records, official statements and releases from government agencies, law enforcement, school districts and other public bodies, publicly available reporting, and information provided directly to us by residents and organizations. We aim to attribute information to its source so readers can judge it for themselves.
How our coverage is produced
Treasure Coast Today uses automated tools to help gather, organize and synthesize information from public sources and to assist in drafting and surfacing coverage. All coverage is produced and published under the editorial oversight of the publisher, Andrew Dobrow, who is responsible for what appears on this site.
We use technology to help us cover more local news more quickly, but the editorial responsibility for accuracy, fairness and judgment rests with us, not with any tool.
Accuracy and corrections
We work to get things right, and when we get something wrong we correct it promptly and transparently. If you spot an error, please tell us. See our Corrections Policy for how we handle mistakes.
Independence
Treasure Coast Today is independently owned and personally funded, with no parent company and no outside investors. Advertising and editorial are kept separate: advertisers do not receive coverage in exchange for their business, and paying for an ad does not influence how or whether we report a story. See our Ownership & Funding page for details.
Fairness
We aim to be fair to the people and institutions we cover, to give a reasonable opportunity for response where appropriate, and to distinguish clearly between news and opinion.
