The double fatal shooting occurred at about 3:30 a.m. Sunday in the 1300 block of Southeast Rivergreen Circle. When officers arrived, they found two men with multiple gunshot wounds in the driveways of a residence.
Both victims, identified as Carl Loubeau, 24, and Juliun Stokes, 22, both from Fort Pierce, were taken to separate local hospitals, where they later died from their injuries. Police said a verbal altercation occurred outside the residence over a key to a home and escalated into an exchange of gunfire between two of the individuals involved.
Chief Leo Niemczyk said a woman contacted Loubeau, whom she was dating, for a key because she was locked out of her home. When Carl arrived, he found her present with other people, including two males. The motive behind the initial attack was jealousy over the female, Niemczyk said.
Police said Loubeau was the primary aggressor in the dispute, with Dwayne Walker, 20, discharging his firearm in self-defense. Niemczyk said Loubeau approached Juliun and opened fire on him, apparently mistaking him for Dwayne. Walker was in close proximity and withdrew his lawfully carried firearm and started firing on Carl.
Police said their current investigation shows that Loubeau fired eight rounds from a 9 mm pistol and one round from a .380 pistol, with Walker firing eight rounds from his .40 caliber pistol. Walker was not injured in the incident. No arrests have been made in the case.
