The Port St. Lucie Police Department has unveiled a new $28 million training facility designed to provide officers with updated technology and specialized spaces for law enforcement instruction.
The department held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday, giving members of the media a first look inside the 54,283-square-foot building before it becomes operational.
Facility includes range, tactical and simulation training
The new facility includes a 20-lane indoor firearms range and a tactical shoot house where officers can participate in scenario-based exercises.
A MILO virtual simulation theater will be used for decision-making and de-escalation training, while a defensive tactics room is equipped with Axon virtual reality technology.
The building also features a multi-purpose training room, updated audio and visual systems, and office space for the department's Training Division and Criminal Investigations Division.
Police cite city's continued growth
Port St. Lucie police said the facility was developed to support the department's continuing training needs as the city grows.
The project was designed by ADG Architecture and constructed by HJ High. Specialized equipment and technology were provided by companies including Action Target, MILO and Whelen.
Department personnel are expected to begin moving into the building Saturday, July 25.
Police said the secure training facility will not be open to the public.
