The Vero Beach Museum of Art and Coastal Connections will host a free Second Saturday program beginning at 10 a.m. Aug. 8, with hands-on activities, gallery tours and lessons about protecting local marine life. Coastal Connections will lead a hands-on activity in the Laura and Bill Buck Atrium, where visitors can make friendship bracelets using recycled fishing line collected from local waterways.
Participants also can learn about the Fishing Line Recycling Program. The museum has adopted the fishing line recycling tube at the Riverside Park boat ramp.
From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., families can take short, docent-led gallery tours through the Museum Studios family program.
Visitors can then participate in Nature in Layers, an art activity for children connected to the museum's exhibitions. Guests also can tour the museum's summer exhibitions throughout the day. James Prosek: At Work is on view in the Holmes Gallery, while Jill Nathanson: Chromatic Phrases is displayed in the Schumann and Titelman galleries. Second Saturday includes free museum admission throughout the day.
