The Port of Fort Pierce master plan draft for 2026 calls for replacing the existing area at Museum Pointe with large floating docks designed for mega yachts, along with a clubhouse, an event center and a water taxi connecting to Harbour Pointe to the north. The plan also proposes relocating the history museum. Terry Howard, a passionate advocate for St. Lucie County's history, expressed disbelief over the proposed changes.
This is a gem for the area, and I just can't believe they want to put mega yachts here, he said. The museum, it's our culture. It's the center for our culture for this county.
In a statement, St. Lucie County said that no plans have been approved and feedback from the board will dictate future changes, modifications and clarifications to the draft document. Howard has started a petition opposing the proposed marina, hoping to raise awareness and preserve the location and its natural surroundings. This is just a really fantastic place, and our history is capsulized in this museum here, he said. The draft of the master plan is expected to go before the county commission in August.
