Port St. Lucie Police arrested two men on July 23 after a high-speed chase on Southwest Becker Road ended with officers finding one suspect on the roof of an occupied home. Joseph Gary Harris, 42, and Bryan Shawn Baker, 46, fled from officers who attempted to stop their white Acura after observing multiple traffic violations and signs of impaired driving.
Harris accelerated to nearly 80 mph in a 45 mph zone on Southwest Becker Road instead of pulling over. A 911 caller reported seeing the men abandon the car in a driveway on the 900 block of Southwest Idol Avenue in Port St. Lucie. Using K9 and drone teams, police located both men and took them into custody without incident.
Harris faces charges of fleeing and eluding an officer, burglary of an occupied dwelling, resisting an officer without violence, and loitering or prowling. He is being held on a $27,000 bond as of July 30. Baker was charged with resisting an officer without violence and loitering or prowling and is being held without bond as of July 30.
The burglary charge against Harris stems from his presence on the roof of the occupied home where officers found him during the search. Both men remain in the St. Lucie County Jail.
