Indian River County Sheriff Eric Flowers was sworn in Thursday as chairman of the Florida Sheriffs Association board of directors, succeeding his role as vice chairman last year. Flowers now leads the statewide organization that brings together sheriffs from across Florida to develop strategies for leading their counties.
The Florida Sheriffs Association board of directors includes sheriffs from throughout the state who work together on law enforcement strategies and leadership issues affecting county agencies. Flowers served as vice chairman of the board during the previous year before taking on the chairmanship role.
The swearing-in ceremony took place Thursday, marking Flowers' elevation to the top position in the statewide law enforcement organization. The association serves as a platform for sheriffs to collaborate on policies and approaches to county law enforcement challenges.
Flowers continues to serve as sheriff of Indian River County while taking on the additional responsibilities of chairing the Florida Sheriffs Association board. The organization coordinates efforts among the state's 67 elected sheriffs on issues ranging from training standards to legislative priorities.
