Alfonso Guerrero, 39, of Los Angeles was sentenced to life in federal prison for selling fentanyl that caused the death of David Eller of Vero Beach. Guerrero was convicted by a federal jury in May 2026 of distributing fentanyl resulting in death.
Court evidence showed Guerrero sold a tenth of a gram of fentanyl to Eller on May 16, 2023, in a transaction captured on a doorbell camera. Eller was found dead in his Vero Beach home hours later. Two days after Eller's death, Guerrero was arrested with additional fentanyl intended for distribution.
Indian River County Sheriff Eric Flowers said the case demonstrates the commitment to holding drug dealers accountable. Flowers said the department will not tolerate drugs being sold in the community and praised detectives and federal partners for their investigative work.
The case was investigated by the Indian River County Sheriff's Office and the DEA Miami Field Division. The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Florida prosecuted the case.
