The Fort Pierce Police Department is searching for a driver who struck two children with a car on Saturday and left the scene before authorities arrived. The crash happened on 25th Street near the Elks Lodge in Fort Pierce.
Investigators said the driver, believed to be between 20 and 30 years old, stopped briefly to check on the children after the crash but then drove away. Police are looking for a gold Mercedes-Benz that may have damage to the driver's side.
One of the children was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. The condition of the second child has not been released.
