A traffic crash closed U.S. Highway 1 in both directions near Southeast Tiffany Avenue in Port St. Lucie on Thursday morning. The Port St. Lucie Police Department directed northbound U.S. 1 traffic to exit at Port St. Lucie Boulevard, while southbound U.S. 1 traffic was rerouted to Veterans Memorial Parkway.
The department asked travelers to avoid the area and use alternate routes while officers and emergency personnel worked at the scene. Police did not release information about injuries in the crash.
The closure affected one of the major north-south corridors through Port St. Lucie during morning hours. Emergency responders remained on scene Thursday morning to investigate and clear the roadway.
Police did not provide an estimated time for reopening the highway. Motorists traveling through Port St. Lucie were advised to plan for delays and consider alternative routes.
