Vandrell Jacobs, 25, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for a January 2024 shooting at the Orangewood Apartments in Vero Beach that sent bullets into a family's home and triggered a high-speed flight from deputies.
The Indian River County Sheriff's Office arrested Jacobs on Jan. 29, 2024, one day after deputies responded to reports of gunfire at the Orangewood Apartments. Five bullets struck an apartment occupied by a family. Witnesses reported seeing people inside a red Mercedes firing shots toward an intended victim before fleeing the scene.
Surveillance footage captured the Mercedes stopping in the area of the shooting before driving away. Flock cameras recorded the car for about two minutes before the shooting occurred. A deputy who responded to the scene pursued the Mercedes, but the car fled at high speed and ran red lights.
The Mercedes was located the following day and Jacobs was arrested. At the time, he admitted to the allegations. He was charged with shooting into a dwelling/vehicle/building and fleeing police with disregard for safety. He now begins his decade-long prison sentence.
