Senior Resource Association worked with Florida Power Light Company to distribute hurricane preparedness meal kits to seniors in Indian River County during the six-month Atlantic hurricane season. The effort, also in partnership with the Florida Council on Aging, provides vital supplies to vulnerable seniors in the communities the companies serve.
Each kit includes three days of shelf-stable food, water and snacks for seniors who may not be able to leave their homes or receive home-delivered meals immediately after a storm. The kits also include a hurricane preparedness guide with tips and resources. Volunteers from FPL and SRA distributed the kits to help ensure seniors have the resources they need to stay safe.
Senior Resource Association President and CEO Karen Deigl said FPL has been an incredible partner to the organization. FPL External Affairs Manager Michele Murrell said the company is committed to ensuring vulnerable customers have the necessary resources to weather any storm. FPL has worked with local community nonprofits to deliver thousands of hurricane kits to help seniors prepare for storm season since 2016.
