A school bus driver in Indian River County was arrested Thursday on a child abuse charge following an investigation into an incident involving a student on a school bus, according to the Indian River County Sheriff's Office.
Tracy Marie Alpy, 65, of Sebastian, was charged with one count of child abuse and was being held without bond, according to jail records.
Investigators reviewed school bus surveillance video related to an incident that happened Aug. 24 while Alpy was working as a bus driver for the School District of Indian River County, according to an arrest affidavit. The footage showed an interaction between Alpy and a student that led to the criminal investigation, deputies said.
The video appeared to show Alpy removing the child from a seat, grabbing the student and bending the child's finger, investigators wrote in the affidavit. Alpy could also be heard making a threatening remark toward the student during the encounter, deputies said. The child later told investigators they were frightened by what happened, according to the report.
Deputies said they determined there was probable cause to arrest Alpy on the child abuse charge.
