Drivers across the Treasure Coast should prepare for another busy week of construction impacts, with overnight I-95 ramp closures in Martin and St. Lucie counties, extended local-road closures in Port St. Lucie and a major traffic shift planned near Sebastian Inlet.

The Florida Department of Transportation's Treasure Coast traffic report for Sept. 18-25 covers ongoing construction and maintenance work in Martin, St. Lucie and Indian River counties. Most of the major closures begin Sunday, Sept. 20, or Monday, Sept. 21.

Biggest traffic impacts this week

  • Martin County I-95: Two lanes will close overnight in each direction between SE Bridge Road and the Martin-St. Lucie county line, with a series of ramp closures around Kanner Highway, High Meadow Avenue and Bridge Road.
  • Port St. Lucie I-95: Two lanes will close overnight between Gatlin Boulevard and Becker Road, with closures affecting the Becker Road and Gatlin Boulevard ramps.
  • SW Port St. Lucie Boulevard: Several side streets may close for extended periods during drainage and utility work, although FDOT says adjacent road closures will not occur at the same time and access to homes and businesses will be maintained.
  • Indian River County: The Oslo Road interchange project continues with around-the-clock lane restrictions and overnight I-95 closures.
  • Sebastian Inlet: A major traffic shift on A1A is scheduled to begin Thursday, Sept. 24, weather permitting, and remain in place through late 2028.

Martin County

I-95 lane closures from Bridge Road to the St. Lucie County line

The heaviest Martin County work remains on I-95 between SE Bridge Road and the Martin-St. Lucie county line.

Southbound I-95 will have two lanes closed from 7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. beginning Sunday, Sept. 20, through Friday, Oct. 30 for signage, milling and resurfacing.

Northbound I-95 will have two lanes closed from 8:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 20, through Friday, Oct. 30 for milling and resurfacing.

FDOT also plans a series of overnight ramp closures. Only one ramp closure is scheduled to occur at a time.

Kanner Highway, High Meadow Avenue and Bridge Road ramp closures

Northbound I-95 entrance ramp from Kanner Highway: The ramp will close from 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20, to 6 a.m. Monday. Drivers will be directed south on Kanner Highway to Pratt-Whitney Road, then east on SE Bridge Road to the northbound I-95 entrance ramp.

Southbound I-95 entrance ramp from High Meadow Avenue: The ramp will close nightly from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 20, through Thursday, Sept. 24. The detour uses northbound High Meadow Avenue, eastbound Martin Highway and southbound Kanner Highway.

Southbound I-95 entrance ramp from Kanner Highway: The ramp will close nightly from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday. Drivers will be detoured west on Kanner Highway to Pratt-Whitney Road, then to eastbound Bridge Road and the southbound I-95 entrance ramp.

Southbound I-95 exit to SE Bridge Road, Exit 96: The exit will close nightly from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday. Drivers will use the Kanner Highway exit, Pratt-Whitney Road and eastbound Bridge Road.

Southbound I-95 exit to Kanner Highway, Exit 101: The exit will close nightly from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday. The detour sends drivers to Exit 96 at Bridge Road, then east on Bridge Road to northbound I-95 and back to Kanner Highway.

Southbound I-95 exit to High Meadow Avenue, Exit 102: The exit will close nightly from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday. Drivers will use the Kanner Highway exit, travel east on Kanner Highway and take northbound I-95 back to High Meadow Avenue.

A1A near Jensen Beach Causeway

Northbound and southbound A1A/NE Ocean Boulevard from NE Shore Village Terrace to south of the Jensen Beach Causeway will have one lane closed intermittently Monday, Sept. 21, through Friday, Sept. 25 for pavement widening and drainage work.

Two-way traffic will be maintained with flaggers.

Martin Highway in Palm City

Eastbound and westbound Martin Highway between east of SW Stuart West Boulevard and west of Citrus Boulevard will have one lane closed intermittently from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 20, through Thursday, Sept. 24 for milling and resurfacing.

Flaggers will maintain two-way traffic.

Additional Martin County daytime work

Drivers should also expect intermittent daytime lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at these locations:

  • Northbound U.S. 1 between SE Turn Leaf Circle and SE Heritage Boulevard in Hobe Sound for FPL utility work.
  • Westbound Martin Highway between SW Martin Downs Boulevard and SW 42nd Avenue in Palm City for utility installation.
  • SW Conners Highway between the Port Mayaca Polo Club and the Florida Trail Port Mayaca Recreation Area Trailhead for utility installation.

Looking ahead on I-95

FDOT is also giving advance notice of additional I-95 ramp closures after this week's report period.

The northbound Exit 101 ramp to Kanner Highway is scheduled to close overnight Sept. 27 through Oct. 1, the northbound Exit 110 ramp to Martin Highway is scheduled to close Sept. 28 through Oct. 1, and the southbound Exit 110 ramp to Martin Highway is scheduled to close Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 for wrong-way vehicle testing.

St. Lucie County

I-95 lane closures between Becker Road and Gatlin Boulevard

Northbound I-95 between Gatlin Boulevard and just south of Becker Road will have two lanes closed, with possible lane shifts, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 20, through Friday, Sept. 25.

Southbound I-95 in the same area will have two lanes closed from 7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Sunday through Friday.

Becker Road and Gatlin Boulevard ramp closures

FDOT plans several overnight ramp closures between Becker Road and Gatlin Boulevard from Sunday, Sept. 20, through Thursday, Sept. 24. Only one ramp closure is scheduled at a time.

Southbound entrance ramp from Becker Road: Closed from 7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Drivers will continue on Becker Road to southbound Newfield Parkway, westbound Martin Highway and the southbound I-95 entrance ramp.

Northbound exit to Becker Road, Exit 114: Closed from 7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Drivers will use the Martin Highway exit, travel east on Martin Highway and north on Newfield Parkway to Becker Road.

Northbound entrance ramp from Becker Road: Closed from 7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. The detour uses westbound Becker Road, northbound Village Parkway and eastbound Tradition Parkway/Gatlin Boulevard to the northbound I-95 entrance ramp.

Northbound exit to Gatlin Boulevard/Tradition Parkway, Exit 118: Closed from 7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Drivers will use the Becker Road exit, then Village Parkway to Tradition Parkway/Gatlin Boulevard.

Southbound exit to Becker Road, Exit 114: Closed from 7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Drivers will continue to the Gatlin Boulevard/Tradition Parkway exit, then use Tradition Parkway/Gatlin Boulevard and Village Parkway to reach Becker Road.

Port St. Lucie Boulevard and U.S. 1

Port St. Lucie Boulevard between SE Seafury Lane and SE Lennard Road will have one lane closed intermittently from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

At night, two lanes may close intermittently from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Friday for roadway construction, thermoplastic striping and inspections.

U.S. 1 between SE Jennings Road and NW Golden Oak Trail will have one lane closed from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, plus a nightly lane closure from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Friday for milling, repaving, striping and inspections.

Extended side-street closures along SW Port St. Lucie Boulevard

SW Port St. Lucie Boulevard between SW Jordin Avenue and SW Alcantarra Boulevard will have one lane closed intermittently from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The widening project will also bring intermittent extended closures to several side streets for drainage and utility work. FDOT says closures may begin at 7 a.m. Monday, Sept. 21, with roads reopening by 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25.

Affected roads include:

  • SW McCall Road
  • SW McHord Avenue
  • SW Koler Avenue
  • SW McDevitt Avenue
  • SW McComb Avenue
  • SW McCoy Avenue
  • SW Paar Drive

FDOT says adjacent road closures will not occur at the same time and access to residences and businesses will be maintained.

I-95 north of Glades Cut-Off Road

Northbound and southbound I-95 between Glades Cut-Off Road and just south of Okeechobee Road will have shoulder lanes closed from 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday through Friday, as needed, for guardrail, intelligent transportation system and drill-shaft work.

Fort Pierce North Causeway work

Construction continues around the new North Causeway Bridge in Fort Pierce.

The new fixed bridge is open, but work continues on the surrounding roadway network and demolition of the old bascule bridge. U.S. 1, Old Dixie Highway, Juanita Avenue and Harbortown Drive are among the roads with ongoing weekday lane restrictions through September.

Boaters should also be aware that the navigation channel remains partially obstructed during old-bridge demolition. FDOT says the channel will provide about 40 feet of horizontal clearance through Sept. 23. From Sept. 23 through Dec. 1, 40 feet of clearance is planned during daytime work hours, with a full channel passage available with one hour's notice to the on-scene tug.

Midway Road

Eastbound or westbound Midway Road between Florida's Turnpike and Selvitz Road will have one lane closed intermittently from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday as the widening project continues.

Additional Port St. Lucie and Fort Pierce work

Daytime utility and road work will also affect portions of U.S. 1, Midway Road and State Road 70 in Port St. Lucie, along with A1A/Ocean Drive, Indrio Road, Okeechobee Road and U.S. 1 in Fort Pierce.

Most of those maintenance closures are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21, through Friday, Sept. 25, with intermittent lane closures and possible lane shifts.

Indian River County

Oslo Road and I-95 interchange work

The Oslo Road interchange project remains one of the largest ongoing traffic impacts in Indian River County.

Eastbound and westbound Oslo Road from about 1,500 feet west of the I-95 bridge to SW 58th Avenue will have one lane closed in each direction around the clock through Friday, Oct. 16. One travel lane will remain open in each direction.

Additional nightly closures include:

  • 66th Avenue near Oslo Road: one lane may close from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday through Oct. 15.
  • 74th Avenue near Oslo Road: one lane may close from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday through Oct. 15.
  • 82nd Avenue north of Oslo Road: one lane may close from **9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Sunday through Thursday through Oct. 15. - 58th Avenue at Oslo Road: one lane may close in either direction from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday through Sept. 30. - I-95 within the project limits: up to two lanes may close from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday through Oct. 15**.

State Road 510 near Sebastian

Northbound and southbound State Road 510/90th Avenue between Sebastian Boulevard and 87th Street will have one lane closed intermittently from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 20, through Friday, Sept. 25 for roadway construction.

Major traffic shift at Sebastian Inlet

A long-term traffic shift is scheduled to begin at about 7 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, weather permitting, on A1A/Jimmy Buffett Memorial Highway around the Sebastian Inlet Bridge.

FDOT says northbound and southbound traffic will move onto temporary pavement beginning south of the Sebastian Inlet State Park entrance in Indian River County, cross the existing bridge and continue through a series of temporary pavement shifts north of the bridge.

The traffic pattern is expected to remain in place through late 2028 while work continues on the bridge replacement project. If weather or other conditions prevent the Sept. 24 shift, FDOT says it is expected to occur by Thursday, Oct. 1.

The corridor may also have one northbound or southbound lane or shoulder closed as needed during daytime construction through September, with flaggers directing traffic.

Sections of the north and south parking lots at Sebastian Inlet State Park remain partially closed around the clock as part of the bridge project, although the park and portions of both parking areas remain open.

Additional Vero Beach and Sebastian work

Several daytime maintenance and utility projects are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

In Vero Beach, intermittent lane closures are planned on Oslo Road, State Road 60, U.S. 1 and multiple sections of A1A.

In Indian River Shores, northbound A1A between Surf Lane and Seminole Lane will have an intermittent lane closure.

In Sebastian, U.S. 1 will have intermittent northbound or southbound lane closures in several areas, including between Jefferson Street and Davis Street, 143rd Street and Jackson Street, and Sebastian Boulevard and Cleveland Street.

Before you drive

Construction schedules can change because of weather or other unforeseen conditions. Drivers should allow extra time, watch for changing traffic patterns and follow posted detour signs.
