Martin County now holds the world record for longest Cuban sandwich after Old Havana Cafe and House of Hope built a 400-foot sandwich Saturday morning in Palm City. Martin County Commissioner Edward Ciampi completed the final measurement confirming the sandwich reached 400 feet. The massive sandwich broke the previous world record held by Tampa.
The event raised more than $30,000 for House of Hope, a Martin County nonprofit that provides food assistance, job training, education and other services aimed at helping local families become more self-sufficient.
A large crowd turned out to watch volunteers and sandwich builders assemble the record-breaking Cuban sandwich and support the fundraiser. Organizers said the event was designed to bring the community together while raising awareness and support for House of Hope's mission.
