Indian River County Fire Rescue firefighter and paramedic Geoffrey S. Lang, 35, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at his Sebastian home on Saturday, July 25, according to a Sebastian Police Department report released Wednesday. Officers responded to Lang's residence at 4:18 p.m. after his wife called 911 to report that her husband had shot himself in front of her.
Sebastian police officers arrived to find Lang's wife and a neighbor outside the residence. Officers entered the home with a K-9 dog and discovered Lang's body in a bedroom with an apparent gunshot wound to the head.
An Indian River County Fire Rescue individual pronounced Lang dead at the scene. His body was transported to the medical examiner's office by Lowther Funeral Home.
A neighbor told police they heard a woman yelling and screaming, followed by a single gunshot between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. The neighbor initially thought the sound was fireworks but recognized it as a gunshot. After officers arrived, one neighbor reported speaking with a female neighbor who appeared hostile.
A funeral service for Lang will be held Tuesday, August 3, at Community Church located at 1901 23rd Street.
