Motorists across the Treasure Coast should prepare for overnight interstate ramp closures, extended local road closures and lane restrictions from Sunday, Aug. 2, through Friday, Aug. 7, according to the Florida Department of Transportation's latest weekly traffic report.

The most significant impacts include multiple I-95 ramp closures in Martin and St. Lucie counties, a two-week closure of part of SW Boat Ramp Avenue in Palm City, extended closures on side streets along the SW Port St. Lucie Boulevard widening project and temporary marine channel restrictions at the old North Causeway drawbridge in Fort Pierce. Drivers should allow extra time, watch for posted detours and expect schedules to change if weather or other conditions delay the work.

Major closures at a glance

  • I-95 at SW Martin Highway, Exit 110: The southbound exit and entrance ramps will be closed from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 2, through Thursday, Aug. 6.
  • I-95 at SE Bridge Road, Exit 96: The southbound exit ramp will be closed from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 2, through Thursday, Aug. 6.
  • SW Boat Ramp Avenue in Palm City: The road will be fully closed between SW 33rd Street and SW Martin Highway from 7 a.m.

Sunday, Aug. 2, until 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16. - I-95 at Midway Road, Exit 126: Northbound and southbound entrance and exit ramps will be closed at different times from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 2, through Friday, Aug. 7.

FDOT says only one ramp will be closed at a time. - SW Port St. Lucie Boulevard side streets: Extended closures may affect SW Jaslo, SW Jacoby, SW McCullough and SW McHord avenues, SW McCall Road and SW Paar Drive from Monday, Aug. 3, through Friday, Aug. 7. - Fort Pierce North Causeway marine channel: The old drawbridge channel will be fully obstructed from 7 a.m.

Monday, Aug. 3, through 7 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, followed by limited single-leaf openings and shorter full closures through Saturday, Aug. 8. FDOT says vehicular traffic will not be affected.

Martin County

Drivers on U.S. 1 in Stuart may encounter as many as two northbound or southbound lanes closed intermittently between north of SE Fischer Street and north of SE Decker Avenue. The overnight closures are scheduled from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Friday for sign installation as part of the $7.5 million resurfacing project.

On I-95, two lanes in each direction are scheduled to close overnight between SE Bridge Road and the Martin-St. Lucie county line. Southbound closures are planned from 7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., while northbound closures are planned from 8:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. The milling, resurfacing and signage work is expected to continue through Oct. 30.

Several southbound I-95 ramps will close overnight Aug. 2-6:

  • The Exit 110 ramp to SW Martin Highway will close, with traffic directed to Exit 102 at SW High Meadow Avenue and back toward Martin Highway.
  • The southbound entrance ramp from SW Martin Highway will close, with traffic directed toward SW High Meadow Avenue to reach I-95.
  • The Exit 96 ramp to SE Bridge Road will close, with traffic directed off at SW Kanner Highway and toward Bridge Road using Pratt-Whitney Road.

FDOT says only one ramp closure will occur at a time, and contingency dates are scheduled for Aug. 9-13 if the work is delayed.

Along A1A/NE Ocean Boulevard, one lane may close intermittently between NE Shore Village Terrace and the Jensen Beach Causeway from Monday through Friday for pavement widening and drainage work. Two-way traffic will be maintained by flaggers.

On SW Martin Highway, one lane may close in either direction between SW Stuart West Boulevard and Citrus Boulevard from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, through Thursday, Aug. 6. Flaggers will maintain two-way traffic.

SW Boat Ramp Avenue will be fully closed between SW 33rd Street and SW Martin Highway from Aug. 2 through Aug. 16. The posted detour uses SW 33rd Street, SW 66th Avenue and SW Martin Highway. Access to homes and businesses will be maintained.

In Palm City, one of two westbound lanes on SW Martin Highway may close intermittently between SW Martin Downs Boulevard and SW 42nd Avenue from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday for an FPL utility installation.

St. Lucie County

On I-95 in Port St. Lucie, two northbound and southbound lanes may close between SW Gatlin Boulevard and just south of SW Becker Road from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Friday. Lane shifts are also possible during the milling and repaving work.

Drivers should also expect daytime and overnight closures along SE Port St. Lucie Boulevard and U.S. 1. One lane may close during the day on Port St. Lucie Boulevard between SE Seafury Lane and SE Lennard Road and on U.S. 1 between SE Jennings Road and NW Golden Oak Trail. Overnight work may close two lanes on Port St. Lucie Boulevard and one lane on U.S. 1.

The SW Port St. Lucie Boulevard widening project will produce one-lane closures between SW Jordin Avenue and SW Alcantarra Boulevard from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Extended closures may also occur on nearby side streets while crews install drainage and utilities. Adjacent streets will not be closed at the same time, and access to residences and businesses will be maintained.

The affected side streets include:

  • SW Jaslo Avenue between SW Jacoby Avenue and SW Paar Drive
  • SW Jacoby Avenue between SW McCain Street and SW Port St. Lucie Boulevard
  • SW McCullough Avenue between SW Jaslo Avenue and SW Port St. Lucie Boulevard
  • SW McCall Road between SW Port St. Lucie Boulevard and SW Kabane Street
  • SW McHord Avenue between SW Port St. Lucie Boulevard and SW Kabane Street
  • SW Paar Drive between SW McIntosh Street and SW Port St. Lucie Boulevard

Farther north, as many as two lanes on I-95 may close nightly between Glades Cut-Off Road and just south of Okeechobee Road from 8 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. Sunday through Friday.

Four I-95 ramps at Midway Road are also scheduled to close overnight during that period: the northbound entrance, northbound exit, southbound exit and southbound entrance ramps. Only one ramp will be closed at a time. Depending on the closure, posted detours will use St. Lucie West Boulevard, Prima Vista Boulevard, U.S. 1 and the next available I-95 interchange.

At the North Causeway in Fort Pierce, the temporary restrictions apply to marine traffic at the old drawbridge rather than vehicles. The channel will be fully obstructed from 7 a.m. Aug. 3 through 7 a.m.

Aug. 6. Single-leaf openings will be available during portions of Aug. 6-8, with additional two-hour full closures for removal of the steel bascule leaves. The new fixed bridge remains open to drivers.

Elsewhere in the county, one lane on Midway Road may close between Florida's Turnpike and Selvitz Road from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays through September. The I-95 exit ramp project at Orange Avenue currently has all lanes open.

Indian River County

One lane on the eastbound or westbound 17th Street bridges in Vero Beach may remain closed through late summer for striping and other construction work. The closed lane may shift between the inside and outside lanes as needed.

At the new I-95 interchange and Oslo Road widening project, traffic remains shifted between the interstate and SW 58th Avenue. I-95 may have one lane closed in either direction from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday, with two-lane closures possible for milling and resurfacing through August.

On SR 510/90th Avenue, one northbound or southbound lane may close intermittently between Sebastian Boulevard and 87th Street from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Friday.

At Sebastian Inlet, A1A/Jimmy Buffett Memorial Highway may have one lane or shoulder closed on weekdays through August for bridge construction, utility relocation and earthwork. Flaggers will direct traffic, and only one lane will be closed at a time. Portions of the state park's north and south parking lots will remain closed during construction of the new bridge.

The U.S. 1 sidewalk improvement project near 45th Street and 53rd Street currently has all travel lanes open.
