Incumbent Republican James Uthmeier is projected to win Florida’s attorney general race over Democratic challenger Jose Javier Rodriguez, keeping Gov. DeSantis’ appointee in the state’s top legal office.

DeSantis appointed Uthmeier on Jan. 16, 2025, after appointing Ashley Moody to fill the U.S. Senate seat vacated when Marco Rubio was appointed secretary of state.

Uthmeier’s actions since taking office have included an official probe into former NIAID director Dr. Anthony Fauci, an arrest warrant for former Cuban leader Ral Castro and a lawsuit against OpenAI and its CEO, Sam Altman.
